Walter H. Stridick, of Merchantville passed away July 23, 2017. Born in Camden on July 31, 1926, he was the son of Harry and Tillie Stridick (Janowska). He was a grocer and butcher all his life, and is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Gloria, and his very loving, caring children: the late Bernadette; surviving four sons Harry (Maureen); Paul (Janice); Michael (Margaret); and Walter (Karen).
Brother of the late Stella Mihaich and Benjamin Stridick, he was a loving and proud grandfather to Kate Schwartz (Russell), Gregory (Leyla), Xavier, Alexander, Grace, and Claire, as well as a cherished great grandfather to Lucas, Alice and Jillian Schwartz. Walter was also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Walter served in the US Navy during the Second World War in the Pacific. He was a proud veteran who was honored to protect this country, and served as Commander of the Eugene J. Newton Post of the Disabled American Vets for 20 years, a 4th Degree Member of the St. Peter Knights of Columbus for 25 years, where he enjoyed his duties for the 6735 Chapter.
Most of all, Walter was proud of his loving children. He was a quiet man but would gently boast of his family’s achievements.
Family and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday evening, July 28th from 6 to 8 pm and Saturday morning, July 29th, 8:30 - 9:30 am at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am, Saturday at St. Peter RC Church, 43 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Calvary Mausoleum, Cherry Hill.
