Jeffrey Schulte Obituary

Jeffrey J. Schulte, longtime Mount Laurel resident, passed away suddenly on April 3, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on August 21, 1949, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Jeff was the beloved son of the late John R. and Regina (Jeanne) Schulte.

Jeff is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Madeleine Schulte (nee Wagemaker), who was the cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children, Dr. Kathryn Schulte-Grahame and her husband Kristopher, and Allison Schulte and her husband Taylor Gilligan. Jeff's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Isaac and Evelyn, who brought immense joy to his later years.

He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, John Schulte and his wife Linn, James Schulte and his wife Karen, Jeanine Watt and her late husband, Glenn, Jerilyn Bowler and her husband Michael, and Juli O'Reilly and her husband Brian. Jeff was a cherished uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Jeff's professional life was marked by his dedication and expertise in the automotive industry. He worked for Subaru for many years in the training department, sharing his knowledge and passion for cars with countless individuals. Later, he owned and operated Carmasters Neighborhood Garage in Lumberton, where he was not just a mechanic but a friend to many in the community. His work ethic and friendly demeanor made him a respected figure in the industry until his well-deserved retirement.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jeff was a man of many interests, with a particular love for hot rods and classic cars. He was an active member of several car clubs, including the Ankokis Car Club, EZ Rods, and the South Jersey Model-T Club. His enthusiasm for automobiles was infectious, and he spent many happy hours tinkering with engines and restoring vintage models to their former glory.  Jeff also enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake and Barnegat Bays.  He spent many afternoons with his family sailing together, jumping off the bow for a swim, and instilling a life-long love of the water in his daughters.

Above all, Jeff was a family man. He adored his family, and nothing made him happier than spending time with them. Whether it was a family gathering, a quiet evening at home, or a trip to a car show, Jeff's presence was a source of warmth and happiness. His love for his family was evident in every action, and his guidance and support were unwavering.

His family also included innumerable dogs that he and his wife Madeleine adopted, trained, and rescued over many years, including eleven for the Seeing Eye Dogs organization in Morristown, New Jersey. Jeff deeply loved his furry family members, and gave each of them many years of love and happiness and a warm lap.

Those who knew Jeff would describe him as loving, handy, and friendly. He had a knack for making people feel at ease and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Jeff loved to regale company with stories from his travels to Japan with Subaru, his childhood adventures and the mischief he got up to with his brothers and friends well into his later years, and his encyclopedic knowledge of all things car-related.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville.
