Rev. Dr. Jay K. Helms

Rev. Dr. Jay K. Helms died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at his residence in Pitman Manor. He was pre-deceased by his wife Alice Jane (Pontefract) Helms. Dr. Helms was born in Roxborough, Pennsylvania Dec. 1915. He worked for his father’s printing company working his way through college. He graduated from Temple University with a BS, BSTh, MSTh, and a D. Th. His first church served was Faith UMC in South Philadelphia. He was admitted to the Peninsula Conference in 1942. He moved to the New Jersey Conference shortly thereafter where he served numerous churches until his retirement in 1982.

Dr. Helms leaves behind three sons, Mark, Paul, and Timothy; their wives, Barbara, Susan, and Judy; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A private service and burial will be held at the Woodruff UMC, Bridgeton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pitman Manor, 535 N. Oak Avenue, Pitman, NJ 08071. For condolences visit www.gaskillbrown.com
