Charles H Stephens, age 78, a lifelong Pennsauken resident, passed away on April 21, 2024.
Chuck, who was also known as Charlie, was born at home in Delair and worked at Texaco in Westville as an Instrument Mechanic until the refinery closed and then went on to work at Campbell Soup in Camden until his retirement.
He met his wife, Janet, in the eighth grade. They were married for 56 years and enjoyed camping together. Chuck enjoyed working with his hands. He could fix anything. He was the unofficial mechanic, electrician, carpenter and plumber for the family. If something was broken, everyone knew to call Chuck. He was always there to lend a helping hand and you knew no matter what the problem was, he would have the right tool for the job. Chuck also enjoyed gardening and reading. He could usually be found puttering around in the yard, working on a project of some kind. He especially valued spending time with his grandchildren. He loved working on cars and a highlight of his retirement was fixing up a classic Mustang with his oldest grandson.
Devoted husband of Janet (nee Elder), loving father of Patti Sparacio (Rob) of Maple Shade and Charles Stephens, Jr. (Maria) of Levittown, PA. Beloved grandfather of Zachary Sparacio, Shaun Sparacio and Victoria Stephens. He is also survived by a brother, John Stephens, of Pennsauken.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family Saturday, April 27th from 10 am to 11:30 am at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. A remembrance service will follow at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that if you are so inclined, that you plant something beautiful in your yard, or make a donation to your favorite charity in Chuck’s memory.
