Corey M. McFadden, of Cape May, NJ, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the age of 33. Born in Voorhees, NJ, the second child of Patrick and Lee McFadden, he was raised in Virginia Beach, VA and then moved to New Jersey in 2008. After studying psychology in college, he went on to work for the US Postal Service in Atlantic City, NJ, before transferring to his beloved Cape May in 2019.
Corey was a voracious reader, interested in a variety of subjects such as religion, history, politics, economics, film, writing and music. He was also an avid photographer who had the ability to capture everyday subjects in a unique perspective. Corey was a lifelong runner, starting in elementary school running in local races as a member of the Tidewater Striders. He went on to run track & field and cross country for Ocean Lakes High School, qualifying for the Virginia State Cross Country Championship Meet three years in a row. He also participated in the Foot Locker Regional Cross Country Championship Meet in both his junior and senior years. After moving to New Jersey, Corey continued racing with his uncle and his father, winning the inaugural Vegan Food Festival Boardwalk 10K in 2018.
Grandson of the late Barbara McFadden; nephew of the late Thomas McFadden Jr. and Kellie Kostyk, Corey is survived by his loving parents, Patrick and Lee McFadden; his devoted sister, Erin McFadden; a caring aunt, Terry McFadden; five dear cousins, Thomas (Jenn), Ryan (Carolina), Kevin (Sarah), Shane (Javier), Christine; and numerous close family members and friends.
For those lucky enough to have known and loved him, Corey will be remembered for his sharp wit, intense intellect, deep love for his family, and compassion for others.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family Monday, June 19, 2023 from 10 to 11 am at the Cape May United Methodist Church, 635 Washington Street, Cape May, NJ 08204. Funeral service will follow at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the JBJ Soul Kitchen (jbjsoulkitchen.org)
