David Martin Obituary

David Keith Martin Sr., passed away suddenly Sunday, December 10th, 2023 at the age of 71. Dave was a dedicated public servant throughout his entire life. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a Naval Officer on the U.S.S. Hancock and the U.S.S. Kiska. He was a graduate of Villanova University’s Reserve Officer Training Corps. Dave continued his public service in law enforcement with the U.S. Customs Service as a Senior Inspector and he retired with a distinguished service record under the Department of Homeland Security. His time with Customs included service with the Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) and he finished his career posted as the Senior Inspector at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ.

Dave served his country and community selflessly for his entire life. In every organization he was involved in he worked behind the scenes to ensure the highest level of success could be achieved. Both he and Patty volunteered for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he contributed his experience as a Naval Officer and served as the Flotilla Commander. He was a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and dedicated many hours to the upkeep of the historic building. Dave also loved to sing. He sang at Grace Church and was a member of the Garden State Chorale. Dave was also a Past Master of Universal Lodge #216 (now U.S.S. NJ #62) of Free and Accepted Masons, with his father, son, and grandson; four generations of Masons. Whether you needed a jump because your car battery was dead, or you were having an issue with your plumbing, Dave would somehow make time for you.

Dave was the son of the late Frederick H. Martin Sr. and Helen V. Martin (nee Hampton); brother of the late Frederick H. Martin Jr., he is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Patricia (nee Henry); three children, David K. Martin Jr. (Cathleen), Catherine Andrew (Forrest), Elizabeth Trader (Robert); his brother, John Martin (Margaret); sister-in-law Debbie Martin; and grandchildren; Jeffrey Martin, Katelyn Martin, Hunter Trader, Kayleigh Martin, Chloe Andrew, Lillian Trader, and Eric Andrew.

The funeral service will be held 3 pm on Saturday, December 15th, 2023 at Grace Episcopal Church, 7 East Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Relatives and friends may visit Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm and again Saturday afternoon from 2 pm until the time of service. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 pm Friday evening. Dave requested a burial at sea, which will be conducted by the United States Navy on an active cruise, at a future date.
