Born in Mount Gambier, South Australia in 1940, Donald left home at the age of 16 and moved to Adelaide, South Australia and was educated at the University of Adelaide and Adelaide Teachers College.  After graduation he became a high school teacher and then a lecturer at Adelaide Teachers College.

Following a call to the ordained ministry he moved to Melbourne, Australia and took a Bachelor of Divinity degree from the University of Melbourne.  On graduation he was appointed to Scots Presbyterian Church in the city of Adelaide, where he was ordained.  He was awarded a scholarship to study overseas, which he took up at Princeton Theological   Seminary, which was the beginning of his love of the United States of America.  While studying at Princeton, he served Calvary United Methodist Church in Keyport NJ. After a three year ministry back in Melbourne, the Marks family returned to New Jersey where he has served United Methodist congregations at Little Silver, Trinity in Merchantville, and Island Heights.  Don also took a Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University and had the privilege of further study during summer vacations at Oxford, Wales and Durham in the U.K.

Don is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of over 57 years and have a beloved son, Simon; and two wonderful grandsons, Alex and Jason, who live in Dallas. His brother Graham; and nephew Chris (Cherie); and niece Susan survive him in South Australia.
