Edith Leah Metzcher (née Baldwin), 99, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, in Magnolia, Texas, surrounded by her loving daughter Deirdre Metzcher Carr and granddaughter Alexandra Carr.
Born on November 20, 1925, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Edith was the beloved daughter of Harry Price Baldwin and Edith Berkley Samuel. She was raised in a loving family alongside her sisters, Charlotte, Mabel, and Beatrice, cherishing the deep bonds they shared throughout their lives.
Edith married the love of her life, James Charles Metzcher, with whom she built a beautiful family. Together, they welcomed three children: Scott Baldwin Metzcher Sr., James Charles Metzcher, and Deirdre Lee Metzcher. Their love and devotion to one another remained steadfast until James’ passing on December 29, 1989.
Edith was a woman of unwavering faith, strength, and joy. She had an infectious spirit—kind, funny, and spunky, always ready to share a laugh and make memories with those around her. She had a positive outlook on life, a deep love for the Lord, and a passion for spending time with her family and friends. Whether gathered around the table sharing stories, enjoying a trip to the casino, or simply enjoying the presence of loved ones, Edith made every moment special.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Charles Metzcher; her parents, Harry Price Baldwin and Edith Berkley Baldwin (née Samuel); her sisters, Charlotte Carragher, Mabel Eynon, and Beatrice Muskett; and her eldest son, Scott Metzcher Sr.
She is survived by her children, Deirdre Metzcher Carr and spouse Michael (Andy) and James Metzcher and spouse Patti, her cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Alexandra Carr, Mallori Poulsen (Karl), Scott Metzcher Jr.(Ellie), and Danielle Metzcher (Freeman), and step-granddaughter, Danielle Carter (Moses) as well as her various great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family. Her wonderful legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the incredible caregivers and hospice staff who provided Edith with compassionate care and kindness in her final days. Their support and love meant the world to both Edith and her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edith’s honor to her favorite charity, The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), a cause close to her heart.
As we celebrate Edith’s remarkable life, we find comfort in the words of John 3:16, her husband’s favorite bible verse:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Relatives and friends may visit with the family Saturday, March 8th from 10 to 10:30 am at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Funeral service will follow at 10:30. Internment will be in Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken.
