Margaret A. Deacon, of Voorhees passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. She was 76.
Maggie is survived by her husband, Jonathan Deacon, her adopted children Emma and Nick, the many who called her Aunt Margaret, and innumerable others whose lives she touched as she was always ready to offer words of comfort and encouragement, a big hug, and a good chuckle.
Selfless, gentle, and kind, Maggie dedicated her life to loving and rehabilitating strays, whether of the canine, feline, or human variety. A dedicated pet mom and member of endless animal rescue groups, Maggie loved nothing more than to snuggle her fur babies and contribute to helping their less fortunate brethren.
Never one to speak of her own accomplishments, Maggie graduated from Wilkes College with a degree in Psychology, and held a Master’s Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. She went on to spend 40 years at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey, serving patients and her colleagues in ever more senior roles.
An avid reader (especially of mysteries), an opera fanatic, a classical music connoisseur, a lifelong sports fan, and a woman of faith, Maggie’s varied interests allowed her to connect with people in any life circumstance. May we all be Maggie: generous of spirit, full of empathy, with a twinkle in our eye, and hearts as big as the cloudless sky.
Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated 11 am, Friday, January 20th at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 108 W. Broad Ave., Berlin, NJ. Interment in Berlin Cemetery will be private.
