Patricia Mary Miller (nee: Cragg) passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the age of 72. “Patty” was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland to the late Arthur E. Cragg and the late Margaret P. Jones.
A naturalized citizen, Patty moved to the United States at fifteen months of age and was raised in Philadelphia, PA. She had resided in Pennsauken, NJ since 1990 with her husband, John H. Miller.
Patty was a deeply caring person. She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Penn State University and later obtained CCRN certification in working as an ICU and cardiac care nurse. She always went the extra mile during her many years in the nursing profession, oftentimes extending well beyond her scheduled shift meticulously taking notes and ensuring a seamless changeover and best standard of care for her patients.
Patty was a giving person, and quick to lend a helping hand to those in need. She also spent time as a volunteer with the Philadelphia Zoo where she ultimately completed a docent training program and served on the docent council with responsibility for the education of zoo visitors on the various animals under its care.
Patty loved chocolate and, while often “too full” to finish her main entrée, always had room for dessert. She loved dolphins, and enjoyed trips to the New Jersey shore, the mountains and Pennsylvania Dutch country. She also enjoyed movie time with her husband, John.
Patty loved family, and cherished the opportunities to get together over holidays and special occasions. She was a constant source of phone calls checking in to see that all was well, and, when not, the official worrier for the family including everyone in her evening prayers.
In addition to her husband of 44 years, John, Patty is survived by her son, James (“Jamie”) C. Lawson (Lisa A. Antas-Lawson), her grandson, Alexander J. Lawson, and her granddaughter, Dylan E. Lawson. Dear sister to the late Scotty Cragg and the late Karen Cragg, Patty is also survived by a nephew and niece, Kyle Holdsworth and Holly Miller (nee: Holdsworth) (Kenny Miller) and their respective children, Skyler Holdsworth, Mason Miller, and Kendall Miller to whom she was “great aunt Patty”.
Patty was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, “mom-mom”, aunt, great aunt, in-law, etc., and a true friend to many more. She will be deeply missed, but not easily forgotten by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing, Thursday, January 25th from 6 to 8pm at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville, NJ. Funeral service will follow at 8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
