Rita Tambone

Rita Tambone became whole again on June 21, 2024, by reuniting with the love of her life and husband of 41 years, Nicholas.  Leaving this world at age 95, she was known for her wonderful sense of humor and a robust desire to live life to the fullest.  Charismatic yet prickly at times, Rita never shied away from sharing an opinion or engaging in a friendly, yet spirited debate.  She was affectionately characterized by family members as someone ready to go to battle for family and friends; someone you always wanted on your side - always ready to drop everything if needed, be it day or night, to support those she loved.

Rita was predeceased by her parents Emily and John Ricci, along with brothers Robert Ricci and Kennith Ricci.  She is survived by her three children, Laurie Wakefield and husband Ken, Steve Tambone and wife Marion, and Susan DeCarlo; 2 grandchildren Niki and Ashley (by Susan DeCarlo) and 4 great grandchildren Caleb, Ryland, Griffen and Marshal.  Rita is also survived by her brother Douglas Ricci and wife Mary along with niece Emily, and nephews John, Christopher, Gary, Michael, Neil and David.

Rita was born and raised in Bronx, New York where she eventually met, and fell in love with her husband-to-be, Nick Tambone, at the age of 17.  While tending to her 3 children as a full-time mom, Rita decided to go back to school and earned her college degree at age 46.  She began her professional career soon there-after with vigor and enthusiasm - taking great pride in her eventual 25 years of service at Lederle Laboratories, Wyeth and Pfizer.  In retirement, she remained close with many former coworkers, and also built new relationships by establishing a variety of women’s social groups.  Ready with an infectious smile and warm hello, Rita enjoyed strolling through her neighborhood in Nanuet, New York, and hosting dinner parties for family, friends and neighbors.  She also enjoyed dancing, music, traveling and observing the world around her.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, June 28th from 2 pm to 3 pm at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Funeral Service will follow at 3 pm. Interment will be held in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
