Robert F. Hermanns Sr., of Mt. Laurel passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the age of 98. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he moved at the age of 12 with his family to Merchantville and graduated from Merchantville High School in 1942. Robert was a US Navy veteran of WWII, served in the Pacific theatre stationed at the Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Oahu. HI. Returning home, he briefly worked for a heating company before joining the family business, Merchantville Overhead Door Company in 1946. Robert, along with his brother Henry, acquired the business from their father until 1982 when Henry retired. Robert continued as President and owner until 1990 when his sons Robert Jr. and Edward Sr. acquired the company. Even though Robert was no longer the President he continued and to work in the business and officially retired in 2017.
Bob was a member of Merchantville Lodge #119 of F&AM, the VFW, Camden Forest #5 of the Tall Cedars where he served as Grand Tall Cedar twice. He was also a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church in Merchantville. He loved boating, traveling, model trains, and camping and was a member of Ocean Sands Campground.
Brother of the late Henry Hermanns, father-in-law of the late Dominic Nanni; he is survived by his beloved wife Dolores (nee Purcell); three loving children, Lynn Nanni, Robert Hermanns Jr. (Gloria), Edward Hermanns (Nancy); seven caring grandchildren, Karen Moran (Tim), Scott Hermanns (Emily), Stephanie Laurick (Kevin), Rachael Cancelliari (Dave), Ed Hermanns Jr. (Danielle), Lisa Meisenzahl (Mike), Michelle Cahill (Shamus); nine cherished great-grandchildren, Isla, Riley, Jax, Nicholas, Eddie III, Olivia, Cash, Brody, and Deklin; and a dear sister, JoAnn Hermanns-Pokorski.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation, from 10 am to 11 am, Thursday, Sept. 23rd at Grace Episcopal Church, 7 East Maple Avenue, Merchantville. Requiem Eucharist will follow at 11 am. Interment in the church columbarium will be private.
