Obituary

Surrounded by loved ones, Sergio “Serg” Suarez, 67, of Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022. Born September 9, 1954, to Gilberto Suarez Sr. and Maria (Morales) Suarez in Cidra, Puerto Rico. Sergio spent his young life in Puerto Rico and later moved to Camden, New Jersey, where he finished his education.
Sergio loved people and people loved Sergio. You could always count on Sergio for a long conversation and a smile. Talented, smart, and hard-working he was a gifted soul that could have done anything in life. Sergio was in the Army and the National Guard and later worked in construction. He was a life-long contractor. He was often referred to as the “Monkey Man on Scaffolds” because he was willing to do whatever was necessary to complete a job.
Sergio stayed strong right until the very end. You can look at the mark he had on everyone’s life. Sergio smiled through the struggles in his life; he never let anything keep him down. He was light-hearted and playful and loved having a good time. There was never a song that he couldn’t sing to. Sergio also loved making others laugh. He was a genuine soul and hard worker. He will be sadly missed and remembered by all those that loved him.
He is survived by his two loving children, Shalita M. Nonnenberg- Suarez (Gabrielle) and Sherry M. Suarez. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Neveah, Ziyah and Zikhi Suarez and Aaliyah Nonnenberg-Suarez. He was a devoted brother to Minerva Yesir, Louis Suarez, Maria Mercado, Gilberto Suarez Jr., Ester Suarez, and Roberto Suarez. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, the mother of his children Shirley M. Jimenez, and his long-time girlfriend Dana Rushing. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, Gilberto and Maria E. Suarez, his older sister Carmen Trinidad, and his two younger brothers, Miguel, and Ruven Suarez.
He would always finish a conversation with, “I love you.” Sergio, we love you too.
