Stella W. Lee

Stella (Cann) Lee, age 93, passed into Heavenly Gates April 1, 2016. Born Dec. 5, 1922 to Walter and Marcella Walsky from Lithuania, she was a 1941 graduate of Merchantville High School. She was married to William S. Cann (deceased) for 34 years. Stella traveled with Sgt. Cann, an Infantry Drill Sgt. to 3 or 4 training camps in the USA. The last being Fort Lewis in Washington State, where she took a job at Boeing Aircraft around 1942 and stayed until Sgt. Cann was shipped to fight in Europe.

Stella returned to NJ and with their young son, William in the care of her parents, worked at Sears & Roebuck when her husband returned. She was later employed by the Cherry Hill Police Dept. for over 16 A½ years.

Stella married William Lee around 1975 until his death in 1999. They spent many wonderful years together at their shore house and traveled extensively with their beloved son, Billy Lee.

She is survived by 2 sons, William "Sonny" Cann, Dennis M. Cann Sr.; a daughter, Elayne (Lee) Leonetti; 9 grandchildren, & 6 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held 11:30 am, Saturday, April 23rd at the Gaskill Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Ave., Merchantville. Visitation will be from 10:30 until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
