Walter R. Heinemann Sr.

Walter R. Heinemann, Sr., 80, of South Seaville NJ (formerly Pennsauken NJ) passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Camden NJ on April 16, 1946, to Walter B. and Florence Heinemann, who predecease him. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1969. Part of his time in the Navy he served on the USS Galveston, traveling in the Mediterranean. Walt retired after a 42-year career as a pressman with the Philadelphia Inquirer. Where he made many life-long friends. 

After retirement, he began his second career as an avid fisherman, living his best life on the open water on his boats. He was a former member of the Merchantville Fishing Club & Tri-State Anglers Fishing Club. He worked as security in SSL Campground which afforded him new friendships in addition to continuing old friendship with the original crew from when they owned their trailer from 1985-2000.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Joyce E. Heinemann (nee. Wilkins); his daughter Joyce Elaine (JE) Peirce (Rob Hallowell); son Walter (Rusty) Heinemann (Michelle Heinemann); his grandchildren Erick Peirce; Lindsey Paxson (Jonathan Paxson) and Lucas Heinemann; and future great-granddaughter Penelope Jade Paxson. In addition to his loving family, he is survived by many cousins. He is predeceased in death by his sister-in-law Carol Wilkins and brother-in-law Ed Preine.

A gathering of family and friends will be held beginning at 10:00 am on Monday May 11, 2026 at the Gaskill-Brown Funeral Home, 33 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
